Historic Victorian Remodel near Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Homes like this don’t need to be reimagined—they need to be understood. This home has history, character, and stories to tell.

This historic Victorian remodel near Cedar Rapids was focused on preserving the character that makes older homes special, while carefully integrating new elements that feel true to the original design.

The homeowners wanted to restore some of its original charm, while also adding some design choices to modernize it. We love being able to bring old things back to life and also bringing in new elements. The flooring on this project is especially important as it was ordered in to specifically match the original flooring, with all its nuances and variations. We love that it isn’t a cookie-cutter floor—each piece has a story to tell.

One of the most important decisions in this space was the flooring. We installed Southern Yellow Pine flooring, selected specifically to match the era and style of the home. It was sourced and shipped from Massachusetts. The goal wasn’t to introduce something new—it was to restore a sense of continuity.

The result is a space where everything works together. The flooring adds depth and warmth, but more importantly, it allows the room to feel complete without drawing attention to what’s been changed.

In older homes, the difference between a remodel that feels “new” and one that feels right comes down to the details.

At Crafted, we approach historic home remodeling in Cedar Rapids and Eastern Iowa with a focus on craftsmanship, intentional material selection, and long-term quality—so every project feels like a natural extension of the home’s story.
